H.E. Ambassador Jan Kohout, presented his credentials to H.E. the President of the Republic of Malta, Dr George Vella, on the 27th June 2023 as the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Malta.

President Vella started the meeting by observing that the relations between Malta and the Czech Republic, which have existed for a long time, have developed successfully at the bilateral level as well as on international platforms. Malta, which firmly believes in multilateralism, is eager to work together with the Czech Republic in the various international and regional forums, especially within the European Union and the United Nations to keep improving and strengthening relationships.

Ambassador Kohout explained that he intends to intensify bilateral relations especially from the commercial and cultural aspects. Malta is a very attractive tourist destination for Czech visitors thanks to its unique cultural heritage. From a cultural perspective, the Ambassador mentioned the potential of exchanges between Prague and Valletta, in light of their very prominent baroque characteristics. Ambassador Kohout congratulated Malta for its mandate as a non-permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2023-2024.

The Russian war in Ukraine was discussed, with particular emphasis on the effects it had on the movement of the Ukrainian population.
